Week 6                                                                   Monday 23rd August

We had a great few days at Ourimbah last week. We were a bit concerned about the weather on Wednesday when the wind was making it very difficult for us to pitch our tents, but Thursday and Friday were beautiful days and we had a great time.

Thankyou to all the families who travelled great distances to attend and thankyou to everybody who helped in various ways. Things seemed to flow very smoothly and once again, we were all very well fed! Most importantly, the students had a great time celebrating book week.

A lot of effort had obviously gone into creating the costumes for the book parade which made it very difficult for the judges to decide on

winners! Congratulations to Luke Hughes, Caitlin Myors and Sarah McManus who all received book prizes.

The students  all proved that they are very creative and imaginative authors and illustrators and worked well in their groups to produce some very entertaining texts!

It was great to see so many ÔDadÕsÕ at the workshop although their tactics on the soccer field almost created an insurance issue!

Miss Burns also proved she was a force to be reckoned with when it comes to soccer! Everyone seemed to be having lots of fun!

A huge thankyou must be extended to Martin, Rose Ann and Caitlin who looked

after us very well. We hope you were able to put your feet up on the week-end! You did a great job, well done and thank you!

Di Ridge received some creative designs for the gift cards which will be printed and sold as a DE fundraiser. Thank you to all the students who submitted a design. Orders for the cards were collected by Di at the workshop, so if you were not there and wish to order some, you need to contact Di as soon as possible. Multiple copies of individual cards can be ordered at $1 each or packs of 5 mixed birthday, Christmas or ÒAt HomeÕ cards can be ordered for $4.50 a pack.

If anyone wants to order a Canterbury Rugby Guernsey, please contact Di Ridge before the end of term.

This week, Adam, Murray, Henry and Sarah will be attending a movie making workshop in Bourke. Ms OÕBrien will be attending this workshop with the students and we look forward to seeing the finished product. I am sure they will have lots of fun and develop some very advanced technology skills.

Mr OÕMally will be in Dubbo on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, attending a course to do with the new technology.

A management meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday 8th September at 3pm on air. Kate White will be in attendance at this meeting. All agenda items need to be forwarded to your tower reps by Friday 3rd September and a complete copy of the agenda items will be faxed to everybody.

A number of attachments will be with this newsletter:

  • A request form to be used when you require any resources from the DEC
  • A Library book record to be kept in the students library bag so that we can check we are not sending out books that have been previously read. If comments are provided on preferred texts, we can choose books accordingly.
  • A ÒHome ReadingÓ guide which you may find useful
  • A sample timetable which was designed for Stage 2 Ð this is a guide only and may be useful for allocating set time limits on particular activities. Please contact your childÕs teacher if you would like assistance creating a timetable specific to your studentÕs needs.

Thankyou once again to everybody who participated in the Ourimbah workshop. It was a most enjoyable few days.

I hope you have all recovered!
